About The Tajmahal:
Tajmahal is such an awesome sample of stone art. It was built by Great Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan, got married to Mumtaj Mahal. Tajmahal built in loving memory of his wife. Afrox 20,000 workers worked for 22 years to build it. Construction period of tajmahal is 1631 A.D. to 1653 A.D.

White crystalline marble, Gemstones, sandstone are the main stone, which has been used in Tajmahal.

Makrana Marble which was used in Tajmahal , was brought from Makrana, Rajasthan (India.)

Makrana Marble:
Makrana is ultimate old and best quality of marble. It is best marble variety for floors and walls. It gives natural and visual appeal to the area. Makrana village is great source of natural makrana marble. It consists of very high amount of calcium carbonate CaCO3 (90-98%). Makrana marble is not chemical treated hence doesn’t change color.

Marble is Available in vast variety and colors. Resistance to water and weather, Resistance to alkyl and acids, Easy to cut, Easy to carve and Excellent building material. Hence Makrana Marble was used in Tajmahal as building material.

Marble is a metamorphic rock composed by carbonate, calcite and dolomite minerals. Marble forms by heat and pressure in earth crust. Marble is most popular stone. Widely used for building, monuments, and sculptures. Pure white marble is most valued. It occurs from polymorphism of limestone.

Sandstone:
Sandstone is a sedimentary rock. It is formed by compaction and consolidation of sand, which is together by a natural cementing material, such as silica.Sandstone is made of sand cemented by silica, iron, lime etc. It is quartz based stone. It is one of the hardest and toughest materials. Even it is harder then granite. Sandstone is mined by quarrying. Commonly sandstone is composed of quartz and feldspar. It is widely used for stonecraft.
Sandstone has great features of High mechanical strength, Resistant to acids and alkalis, Resistant to air and Saline water, Low water absorption ability, Resistant to Corrosion and weathering, Excellent binding with cement, Load bearing and Resistance with heat. Due to these features sandstone used in Tajmahal as a building material.
